Khonshu is a character from the Marvel show Moon Knight. He is the Egyptian God of the Moon and the Night Sky who sought to avenge those that had been wronged by evildoers through his Avatars who were known as Moon Knights.
For Halloween 2022 I decided to cosplay as Khonshu, creating a full costume and props from scratch. The goal was to create this costume using househould materials at a low cost.
Materials: Bandage guaze, Coffee grounds, Papier-mâché, Landscaping fabric, Twine, Cardboard, Spray paint, Acrylic Paint, and PLA Plastic (3D Printing).

The headpiece for this costume was created by first using a paper template to draft the base shape of the head. This was then transferred to cardboard, and carefully built up using Papier-mâché to fill out the nooks and crevices of the skull. The surfaces were smoothed with multiple coats of papier-mâché, then painted using white household acrylic paint. It was then carefully dirtied and antiqued by dry-brushing it with a variety of shades of brown paint, and the holes of the eyes and nose were blacked out with landscaping fabric glued to the interior.
The body portion of this costume was created by using a mannequin bust as a base and dressing it in a long-sleeved plain gray shirt. Twenty-four plain white bandage guaze rolls were soaked overnight in an array of mixtures including brewed coffee and muddy colored paint water. These bandages were then hung up on a shower curtain rod to fully dry, then were wrapped carefully around the mannequin to fully cover the shirt underneath. They were secured in place with safety pins before being carefully glued into place so they would not shift.
The neckpiece and moon crest on the chest were made from cardboard and hot glue and spray painted gold, then dry-brushed with shades of brown and black to give them a patina effect.
Several soaked bandages were also attached to each other in similar fashion to the shape of a duster vest, with the ends trailing down below the shoulders. Additional bandages were tied around the waist to create the belt piece.
The staff was constructed using two spare bamboo poles as a base. The moon shape at the tip of the staff was constructed in the same fashion as the head, using papier-mâché. It was spray painted gold and antiqued by dry-brushing with brown and black paints, and the pole of the staff was painted brown and antiqued with silver streaks to give a metallic effect. The Golden Scarab prop was 3D printed using PLA Plastic and attached to the staff using brown twine.
